Cooperative Granát - Company profile

Granát D.U.V TURNOV

Granát, družstvo umělecké výroby Turnov, was created through the merger of smaller private goldsmith companies - sole traders in 1953. At that time the syndicate’s worksites were situated in various places in the close and not-so-close surroundings of Turnov – in Český Dub, Dolní Bousov, Lomnice nad Popelkou and also in Rovensko pod Troskami. As the offices and workshops were scattered around, in 1957 work was started to build a new office building in Turnov at Výšinka. Two years later production began to be concentrated in the new premises.

In 1961 there was a merger of the syndicates Granát, d.u.v. Turnov and Precious. From 1922 the Precious syndicate had brought together precious stone cutters. The new syndicate was therefore able to produce not only garnet, but also cut gold and silver jewellery with natural and synthetic stones.

Granát, d.u.v. Turnov is the largest producer of jewels with Bohemian garnet. To ensure sufficient quantities of the Bohemian garnet raw material, the syndicate became the owner of the only mines where raw garnet can be found, located in Podsedice in the region of Litoměřice and in Vestřev in the Trutnov region.

In 1992 the syndicate underwent a transformation and became a syndicate of owners, combining precious stone cutters and goldsmiths.

In 2009 Libuše Adamičková has been elected to head the syndicate, as chairman of the board of directors.

The present the syndicate has around 360 employees and its annual turnover is 256 mil. CZK.

As well as its network of retail outlets the syndicate has trading partners in the Czech Republic and abroad.

The syndicate’s range includes a series of models which build on the historical tradition and popularity of these jewels. The syndicate works closely with contemporary designers and also offers a collection of trendy fashion models.
